Keynote: VR Training in Industry: Serious Business!

Martijn ter Haar, Head Manufacturing Planning & service, Apollo Tyres Ltd
Marjo Nieuwenhuijse, CEO, Serious VR

Virtual Reality is on the management agenda of many industrial companies. But the question is, what are the benefits and how can you use it? VR training optimizes training processes for operators, lowers machine downtime and reduces training costs. In this presentation Apollo Tyres will be speaking, from an industry perspective, about the benefits, the use and the challenges of introducing VR. Serious VR will be speaking  about VR training and the next step; integrating methodologies like Lean, Six Sigma and gamification into the virtual environment.

Industry 4.0 Turning knowledge into skill

Gerben Harmsen, CEO, TWNKLS

Knowledge is a valuable good to the industry. And in order to get knowledge we learn. You spend a lot of money training your workers and letting your customers know how to navigate and operate your machines. There is, however, a big gap between learning and doing. We learn from a book, a teacher, or a course, and then later we apply that to what we want to do. We alternate our attention between taking in knowledge and using it. In between a lot is lost in interpretation, in bad memory.
This gap wastes time, creates mistakes, and burns efficiency. Luckily that is now a thing of the past.
Augmented reality is key to the fourth Industrial Revolution, Industry 4.0. By bringing information into context AR enables a new kind of worker that can learn while doing. Augmented reality offers you instant expertise. It empowers you to do a new task first time right.

Providing Information on the Spot: Using Augmented Reality for Situational Awareness in the Security Domain

Stephan Lukosch, Associate professor, Delft University of Technology

For operational units in the security domain that work together in teams, it is important to quickly and adequately exchange context-related information to ensure well-working collaboration. Currently, most information exchange is based on oral communication. This presentation reports on results from a project using augmented reality (AR) techniques to improve situational awareness and support information exchange within teams, but also across teams from different organisations in the security domain. It discusses the results and outlines future work directions.

Otolift – Improving sales and customer experience using AR technology

Daniel van der Schoor, Project manager TWNKLS namens Otolift

Otolift, a leading stairlift manufacturer, wanted to streamline their sales and measuring process that such a complex product requires. By using an AR configuration and visualisation tool the sales process improves in which they advise their customers on the type of lift and visualize the lift that best fits their needs. With TWNKLS proprietary technology Otolift is able to perform an accurate measurement using an iPad, which results in a 3D model of the stairwell - ready for engineers to use! This accurate new measurement system reduces faults, gives direct feedback and reduces production lead-time.
